The purpose of this study was to investigate thevalidity generalization of the entrance examination testsfor entering public higher education institution. Theinformants were 12,104 successful candidate in the 1984 and1985 academic years. The data, consisting of 2,518correlation coefficients between the entrance examinationscores and the achievement scores, was analyzed by Law,Schmidt and Hunter's validity generalization procedure, based on meta analysis of correlation coefficients. Theresults were as follows: 1. Of the twelve entrance examination tests, thevalidity coefficients of eight tests could be generalized. The true validities estimated from the lower bound of the90% credibility value ranging from the highest to the lowestwere as follows: Biology (.266), French (.207), Generalsubject 2 (.190), Thai language Form AB (.176), Social studyForm AB (.141), English language Form AB (.093), MathematicsForm A (-.025), and English language Form ABC (.006). It wasfound that the predictive validities of all tests, exceptMathematics Form A, were efficient. The validitycoefficients of four tests could not be generalized; theywere General subject 1, Mathematics Form AB, Chemistry andPhysics. 2. The results of validity generalization employingmoderator analysis indicated that the academic year was nota significant moderator variable, and the validitycoefficients of four tests could be generalized in almostall institutions and fields of study. However, the truevalidities estimated from the lower bound of the 903credibility value were mostly positive in General subject 1and Chemistry, mostly negative in Mathematics Form AB andPhysics. Furthermore, In the field of Engineering thevalidity coefficients of four tests could not begeneralized. |
