Thestudy was divided into 3 phases. The first one was toinvestigate the relationships between linguisticschema, qontent schema, and formal schema with uppersecondary school students' reading compreshension. Thesecond phase involves the development of the model ofteaching English reading comprehension and supplementarymaterials, and the third one was to examine the effectivenessof the teaching model and supplementary materials. The results of the research derived the teachingmodel consisted of five major components : principle, objective, content, teaching procedure, and evaluation. The model gave an emphasis on pre-reading stage wherelinguistic schema, content schema, and formal schemawere provided to the learners to facilitate readingcomprehension and the linking of schema to the readingtext was also emphasized in while-reading stage.in examining the effectiveness of the teaching model, two groups of Matayom Suksa 5 students were selectedthrough random sampling, and then one was assignedas an experimental group while the other was acontrolled group. The teaching model was implementedwith the experimental group whereas the controlledgroup learned through conventional method. It wasfound that the reading comprehension mean score ofthe experimental group was higher than that of thecontrolled group at the .05 level of significance. |
