The qualitative research was aimed to study onthe signification in portrait photography produced byportrait studio and the consumption values of it inJean Baudrillard's consumption logic. The study found that the signification elementsof portrait photography; wedding portrait, familyportrait, and fashion portrait, transformed thisconsumption object into a simulation model, as a resulta simulacra was created on portrait photography. However this simulation model available at the studiowas a simulation in the first and the second order inBaudrillard's concept. The first order was acounterfeit or imitation model and the second order wasa commercial model. Thus the simulation of theconsumers appearing on portrait photography wascontrolled by the law of nature in the first order ofsimulation or by the law of industry if it was of thesecond order where portrait photography wasreproducible in series like commercial products. In analyzing the consumption values of portraitphotography, it was significantly found that theconsumers still consumed portrait photography in atraditional style. Their oriented purpose ofconsumption was as for the logic of use value thatportrait photography was used as a recording medium.Nevertheless, the consumers additionally gainedsymbolic exchange value from portrait photography underthe operation of the use value. |
