Hot air flow phenomena in an oven with differentinternal geometry, which was imitated from anindustrial lens oven, was studied. Experiments wereconducted by classifying into three groups. The firstgroup had a major heat source inside the oven, whilethe source was removed to outside for the second group.Inside the oven was defined to have separate partitionwith/without boxes as obstacles. The third group wassimilar to the second except that minor heat sourceswere added into the oven for representing theexothermic reaction of polymerization. The experimentalresults showed that temperature distribution in theoven with external major heat source was moreconsistent, while partition and obstacle had loweffect. In the oven with internal minor heat source, more minor heat source resulted in poor temperaturedistribution. Also found that higher flow rate of hotair into the oven helped in consistency temperaturedistribution. Moreover, PHOENICS 2.1 was used to simulate thehot air flow phenomena in the case of the oven havinginternal minor heat sources. Temperature distributionobtained from the simulation qualitatively agreed withthose of the experimental results. Besides, thesimulation results showed that hot air flowed directlyto the bottom of the oven and removed some heat with itcausing the lower temperature at the bottom of theoven. |
