To install the water supply pipes in a city, demolition of reinforced concretepavement is usually found due to the intersection of water pipes and concrete roads. Thedemolition is normally a 30 - 50 centimeters narrow channel with 15 - 20 centimeters ofconcrete thickness, depending on the sizes of installed pipes. From the interviews of 22water supply system contractors, the traditional tool that most water supply systemcontractors use for demolishing concrete pavement is a pneumatic breaker. However, thepneumatic breaker has many disadvantages to Thai Contractors. First, this demolition toolis expensive since it is imported from overseas. It produces noise and vibration tooperators and nearby residents. It is also inconvenient to move and provides unfavourableconditions to the operators if they operate it for long time. This research is a study of the productivity improvement of reinforced concretepavement demolition. The proposed alternative is a design and development of a newconcrete demolition tool. The developed tool utilizes the direct impact of the 113kilograms hammer on reinforced concrete pavement to break concrete into pieces. It isexperimented to compare with the popularly used 90 cubic foot per minute pneumaticbreaker. The results show that the average productivity of concrete demolition increasesby 51.9 percents. The new tool produces lower noise and vibration and increase safety foroperators. Since it is produced locally, the cost of development is comparatively verylow. Although it has some limitations to be improved, the tool offers a bettermobilization with a shorter time to be installed. |
