The objective of this thesis is to design a database and develop a software the purpose ofwhich is to reduce the transportation cost of orchids purchased for the orchid export business.The Visual Basic Program has been used to design and manage the database on SQL Server. By using the forecast data from each farm and distance between farms as generated in the databasedesign with the method of Cluster First Route Second, the program has been designed to locatethe farms for daily supply under several constraints. With the function of Network Analyst onprogram ArcView, the user can find the best route for daily trips and print out as a map orreport form. The distance data will be collected by the main database system for thecalculation of fuel consumption of each truck. The program can also calculate the quantity oforchids purchased from farms or the distance travelled by trucks. After testing the program for a certain the period of time, the result shows the reduction ofthe number of farms visited and the number of the daily trips of the orchid exporter. Theprogram has been designed under user friendly concept and for other perishable products as wellwith nature similar to orchid flowers. |
