This cross-sectional study assesses the implementation of modern drug distribution controls of pharmacists in Provincial Health Offices. The study was conducted by collecting data concerning the pharmacists personal characteristics, level 0 knowledge, motivation factors and implementation of modern drug distribution controls. The sample consisted of pharmacists working in 65 Provincial Health Offices in Thailand. The data were collected by using questionnaires which were sent by mail from September to October 1999. A total of 123 questionnaires were received. Results showed that most of pharmacists in Provincial Health Offices were male, average age of 32.54 years, married, with a bachelor degree, and most had received training for the drug Act. The mean duration of working time was 8.25 years and in the position of pharmacist for 1-5 years. They had a moderate level of knowledge and motivation factors. The overall implementation of modern drug distribution controls was at moderate level and implementation of examination controls, collection, confiscation and seizure were at high level. The implementation of promulgate analysis and accusation were at low level. The analysis showed sex was statistical significant with the overall implementation (p<0.05). The result of this study suggested that pharmacists of Provincial Health Offices should have the role performance of confiscation, seizure, promulgate analysis and accusation to protect consumers. The drug law should be improved. Further more, policy and planning should be coordinated in the organization. |
