The purposes of this research were : 1) to study the fundamental data for development of Communicative Reading Comprehension Exercise 2) to construct the exercises to meet the selected efficient standard criterion 75/75 3) to implement Communicative Reading Comprehension Exercises and 4) to evaluate and improve the Comunicative Reading Comprehension Exercises. The sample of this study comprised one class, 50 fifth grade students of Assumption College Thonburi School,Bangkok Province. Research instruments were interview forms, questionnaires, Communicative Reading Comprehension Exercise, lesson plans, achievement tests and reading skil tests. The statistical analysis employed were percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test depensent and content analysis. The result of this research were as follows: 1. The students and teachers required the development of exercises which included the contents from cartoons and stories with topics of Animals, Feelings, Water, and Fables. Moreover, they wanted varied activities, large print, illustrations which aided comprehension, to be presented in convenient sized booklet. 2. The Communicative Reading Comprehension Exercises developed consist of instructions, objectives, reading activities, evaluation test. The objectives are 1) to identify the information in the picture and to describe it. 2) to describe feelings and the causes of those feelings. 3) to transfer the information from pictures into words. 4) to describe past events. Also the exercise met the efficient standard criterion of 85.70 / 86.20 which was higher than the selected efficient standard criterion 75 / 75, 3. The exercises were implemented over 3 periods of 50 minutes each. The students participated well, understood and enjoyed learning through activities. 4. After the implementation, it was revealed that the students learning achievement scores before and after being taught were significantly different, at 0.05 level. The students have improved their reading skills. The students opinions of the Communicative Reading Comprehension Exercises were positive because of interesting illustrations contents and various tyoes of activities. They agree that the texts were for the students level and various activities were interesting and enjoyable. Moreover, the students would lke to have exercises for the other skills. They wanted simpler instructions with more suitable layout. |
