The main purpose of this research study was to develop a valid and reliable RLC performance test for alternating current circuit in laboratory. The test was a qualitative standardized tool used as a prototype for assessing students achievement in experimental study. The test consisted of four different types of testing devices : an object test, a post achievement test, an observation form, and an experimental report assessment form. These devices were developed by the folloeing processes : 1. The object test focused on the students ability in handling experimental apparatus. The test achievement was based on the principles assessing the appropriate usage of oscilloscope and signal generator. The result of the development offered a multiple choice test with 20 items. According to Brennans discriminating Index, each item of this object test showed the validity of 0.67 in average. 2. The observation form composed of a three-leveled scale was developed from the analysis of 19 experimental activities. Its reliability revealed the coefficient correlation of .98. 3. The post achievement test emphasized on the students ability in conceptualizing the experimental results was designed by analyzing the course specifications and the experimental objectives of RLC circuit testing. Due to Kuder Richardson 20, this 20 item multiple choice post achievement test was reliable at .96. Moreover, the level of difficulty indicated a fair level of 0.662 and the level of discrimination resulted 0.944. 4. The experimental report assessment form with a three-leveled scale was created on similar assessment formats and principles from various different institutes. With experts inspection, these ten reliable assessment items showed a coefficient correlation of .944 The four test devices were tested twice with 92 students to select the appropriate items of questions, options, distracters and assessment criteria. All the devices were finally implemented with 132 students for their validity and reliability. Through Pearson Product Moment coefficient, the development of the four different types of testing devices offered the correlation between 0.794 and 0.953. By t-test, they were proved to yield a statistical significance at the level of 0.05. |
