A style of house is not only for the beauty of the outside but also the thermal comfort for the residences. The design of a new housing built in a hot and humid climate should be done in a way that the style is suitable without inducing mechanical energy cost. According to this concept, the design should have included the good ventilation by using natural convection. This will be made by using a constructive elements called the Roof Solar Collector (RSC). With this RSC it is possible to minimize the fraction of the solar flux absorbed by dwelling (insulation) and to induce a natural ventilation which improves its thermal comfort. The configuration of RSC was made by using CPAC monier tile and gypsum board. Two units of RSC with two different air gap sizes of 8 cm and 14 cm were built. Both units were tilt at 25 degree and integrated in the roof structure. The similarity of results of experiment and the simulation results validated the numerical model. Based on long-term simulation of RSC behavior, the appropriate operating conditions of RSC are the 20 degree to 45 degree tilt angle, 100 - 130 cm length, and the space gap between CPAC monier and gypsum board should lines between 10 cm to 14 cm. |
