The thesis aims at studying the language ofimagery in Suwanni Sukhontha ' s literay works in orderto illustrate the relation between theme and imagery. The study reveals that Suwanni ' s language ofimagery starts from the use of words which give detailsof colours, light, sound, smell, taste, movement andfeeling. Suwanni has a great talent in exploiting wordsof colour, light and movement. Consequently, her worksgain the visual beauty like paintings. Besides, Suwanniemploys metaphor and symbol from nature in the creationof her vivid and exquisite imagery. The imagery usuallyconveys the meanings leading to the understanding ofthe theme. Thus the use of imagery is a prominentdevice in conveying the theme of her works. Suwanni often portrays through her works thenature of human beings- their vices and virtues,desires, love, loneliness and hatred. Through theimagery from nature, she reveals great differencebetween reality and ideals. The imagery of white, gold,light and flower are used to convey virtues whereasred, orange, darkness and sunlight are used to conveyvices. Suwanni creates the language of imagery throughfour elements in her works-the titles, the names ofmain characters, the description of the characters andthe setting. All the imageries are well connected andharmonized into a complete unity. Thus Suwanni achievesa literary beauty in conveying the theme through herexquisite use of imagery. |
