| บทคัดย่อ(English) | This thesis is aimed at studying general andbicycle trip characteristics; the influence ofphysical, economical, and social aspects on modalchoice; as well as proposing a cycling network, bicyclefacilities, and measures to promote bicycle use in thestudy area. According to the study, trip origins are mostlylocated in Phra Pathomjedi Subdistrict, a high-densitydowntown area with mixed land use. The average triplength is rather short. Approximately 72% of the tripsare less than 5 kilometers in length. The main purposeof the trips is for working, following by going toschool, shopping and relaxation. Motorcycle is the mostpopular mode of transportation. Car is preferable amongthe high income group, especially businessmen andgovernment officials whereas bicycle is popular amongstudents and low income groups. Regarding to bicycle trip characteristics, it isfound that 20% of the people in the sampling group usebicycle frequently. Bicycle is popular among children,income less and low income groups--students, workers,employees and low positioned government officials. Themajor purpose of bicycle use is for exercising orshopping, following by going to school. Most of thetrips are less than 3 kilometers in length, and in theeast-west direction. Bicycle is used for traveling toparks markets, schools, and the university. Problemsrelating to the use of bicycle are unsafely,uncomfortable environment, and the lack of bicyclefacilities. The proposed cycling network is aligned in theeast-west direction to cope with the current tripdemand and future needs. It is aimed at serving tripsto recreation areas, shopping areas, and schools. Linksbetween parks, markets, and schools are alsoestablished. Bike lanes are proposed along Rachadamnernand Na Phra Roads, while bike routes are proposed alongRachadamnern Nai, Tipakorn, Pipitprasa roads, andaround Phra Pathomjedi Temple. These can be implementedin 3 phases. The first and short-term plan includespublic relation activities, bicycle week promotion, andthe implementation of a pilot bike lane project in thewestern part of the city along Rachadamnern Nai andRachadamnern Roads, and around Phra Pathomjedi Temple.The second and intermediate-term plan includes theexpansion of the bike lane to the eastern part of thecity and other areas. The final and long-term planincludes the evaluation of the plan alreadyimplemented, the integration of bike lane into publictransportation, and the implementation of supportpolicies relating to transportation, city planing, andtourism. |
