The objectives of this study are to trace back to theevolution of the Muang Nakhon Si Thammarat community from thepast to the present, to study and examine the present conditionof the community's urban development and existing problems, topredict the trend of the community in the future, and to proposethe guidelines of urban development for the community. According to the finding, the community has evolved foralong time which is devided into three periods. In the firstperiod, the community originated in the area of the ancient city.Continually, the area of the ancient city, in the second period,has expanded slong the north-and-south sand dune, wich hasresulted in the linear-type community ranging in distance aboutten kilometres. At present, the community is gradually expandinginto the western area, Hua-ITT, and into the eastern area alongPattanakarn Khukhwany Rd. This trend of the community's expansionis continuing. Resulting from the expansion along the sand dune in thesecond period, certain problems have occurred at present. Theyincludes the problems of center-reaching accessibility and thetraffic congestion on major roads. Similarly, the presentexpansion in the western and eastern areas in facing theinadequacy of public facilities and utilities. In an effort to solve the existing problems and to preparethe adeqacy of space in order to accommodate the expansion in thefuture, the study, therefore, is also focusing on the guidlinesfor the urban development in the community. The guidelinespresented here are two alternatines; on one hand urbandevelopment should be planned in accordance with the condition ofthe continuign expansion; or it should be planned along theformer sand dune in the south of the community in order topreseove the linear-type identity of the community, on the otherhand. |
