The main objective of this research is to disseminate spatial and attribute soil information by the Internet through the use of online Geographical Information Systems. MapObjects version 2.0 and MapObjects Internet Map Server were used to manage geographical information. Visual Basic version 6.0 was used to develop a map and the application program. The spatial information stored in shapefile format at a scale of 1:50,000, in this research consisted of soil series groups, political boundaries, and the main rivers and roads of Chiang Rai province. The attribute information stored in a dBase format consisted of soil series groups, classes of soil suitability for economic crops and limits of each suitability class. The geographical information and application programs were stored on a map server, where users can connect to get documents, map applications and other types of download information by Web Browser. The results have demonstrated the feasibility and suitability of efficiently distributing spatial information over the Internet. |
