This research studied the level of acceptance and factors affecting acceptance of local residents living in the effected area on the construction of the sanitary landfill site in Samut Sakhon province. The method employed in the gathering of statistical data was surveying of 330 households, which were expected to be effected by waste transportation and disposal activities. Data were collected by using a questionnaire as the tool and analyzed by Analysis of Variance and Multiple Classification Analysis via SPSS statistical application software. It was found that the majority of sample cases have a medium level of acceptance of the construction of the sanitary landfill site. Factors affecting their acceptance were the impact from the projects activities, the distance from residence to site location and age, with the statistically significant level of 0.05. As the difficulties and problems with acceptance of the project, in their opinion it is the anxiety of odor and wastewater or leachate problems which would be generated from the disposal activities in the landfill site. These results suggest that the involved organization with this project should promote the projects information in all aspects, such as advantages or projects benefits, the measure to reduce and monitor impact etc. to the local residents living in the effected area of this sanitary landfill site. This would increase the level of their confidence to have higher acceptance and permit the construction of this landfill site without resistance. |
