The objective of this survey research was to study knowledge and subdistrict officers viewpoints on the role of local administrative organizations (LAO) in public health. The sample consisted of 416 respondents including the staffs of local public health administration offices. A total of 81.01% self-administered questionnaires were completed and returned. Student t-test, Pearsons Product Moment Correlation Coefficient were employed for data analysis. The results showed that the knowledge of subdistrict officers in the sanitation authority is low. It is possible to report disease situations, sanitation issue and subdistrict office developments to the LAO. It is impossible to manage the subdistrict office of LAO and stop the duplication of activities. There was significant correlation of age, experience, training and knowledge on LAO. It is suggested training about LAO be provided and coordinating between subdistrict offices and LAO be promoted in order to exchange viewpoints and develop understanding of the role of LAO. This study also suggests changes in policy in decentralization of public health management be considered. |
