Muang Sakon Nakon is located adjacent to Nong Han, thelargest fresh-water lake of the north-cast region. Thus Nong Hanbecomes a source or water supply for Sakon Nakon Municipality. Onthe other hand wastewater from the municipality discharges backto Nong Han. As a consequence, impact on water quality of' NongHan is a major concern of urban development. This problem leadsto the study that aims to examines a land use pattern ofsettlement responding to the carrying capacity of existingnatural resources specially Nong Han Lake. Development of lakesidecity often affects on waterresources, fishing agriculture, tourism and public health. Inorder to mitigate the impacts technology of water treatment isintroduced. This means that the budget including bothconstruction and operation cost have to be provided. However, inpractice as a constraints of expertise and equipment sometimesonly technology is unable to solve the problem. Therefore, concept of feasibility study for pattern of settlement thatrelates to water use and water discharge may be a support toolfor solving wastewater problem of lakcsideurban development. In this study, various factos related to Nong Han areconsidered such as distances of communities in the study area tobank of the lake, to pumping station of raw water, to treatmentplant to sewerage and drainage system to pipeline of watersupply; and slope of the study area. The factors arc analysed forfinding out a feasible guideline for development lakesidecommunities according to population density. The study comparedthe existing pattern of settlement to the urban planing for SakonNakon Municipality. Then, guideline for settlement pattern forsolving the problem is suggested. The suggestion of land use for Sakon Nakon Municipalitydepends heavily on limitation of natural resources available. The distance of' urban expansion is a main concern factor.Expansion of urban south-westward from the old municipality alongthe road no. 213 is recommended. As this area is considered as anarea having potential for supporting development in the future. |
