At present national monuments and sites have deteriorated. One of the most effective methods to preserve them is the promotion of participation of local people in environmental conservation activities. Local people have been directly impacted. This situation they had gained benefit both through pride from their activities and from income generated from the tourist. The purposes of this research were to study the participation of local people by the administering questionnaires to 386 people who live in the municipal limits in Nakhonpathom. The statistics used for data analysis were percentage, means, maximum score, minimum score and chi - square. The research results revealed that most of the samplings participated in the conservation of the monuments and sites at the middle level. The relationship between the length of residence in the area, personal income, knowledge of conservation monuments and sites, behavior of the local residents to receive message and their participation were statistically significant at the level of 0.05. The major problem and obstacle of this research on the participation was the lack of the knowledge and the media information about the environmental conservation of monuments and sites. So the people couldnt combine joint forces in the conservation activities. The suggestion of people from this research is specify that they want to establish local organization which give opportunity in participation on conservation monuments and sites and to public knowledge about conservation by exhibition, training etc. Before take activities on the monuments and sites should be public hearing |
