The thesis entitled "Data Analysis on Archaeological Objects for Education and Exhibition: A Case Study in Sand Stone Sima in Khon Kaen National Museum" is the study of fifteen sima (boundary stones) exhibited in the Khon Kaen National Museum. The researcher applied the iconographical method to the examination of evidence from the registration office where archaeological objects and art objects are controlled, used primary and secondary documents, and interviews of experts. The research result revealed information on sima which can be divided into two sources as follows: The first source is a context of sand stone sima which consists of meaning, history, usage of sima in Buddhism, background and development of lima in the northeastern region based on archeological evidence, and relation between sand stone sima and dissemination of Dvaravati culture in northeastern Thailand. The second source is a study of the pictures sculptured on the fifteen sima which depict the story of Buddhism such as the History of Lord Buddha and Jataka stories (the stories of former incarnations of the Buddha), especially in the group of the Great Jataka. The study of those sculptured pictures would be greatly beneficial, if the museum properly applies information gathered in the study to its exhibition in order to benefit visitors to understand the belief of Buddhism in Thai society. At this point, the researcher has recommended a guideline to present the object data as an alternative, which is based on visitor satisfaction and appropriateness of the existing exhibition. However, the study and analysis of these fifteen sima are only a case study in collecting data from archaeological objects and art objects exhibited in Khon Kaen National Museum. There are other interesting archaeological objects and art objects which have not been analyzed. It is suggested that the national museum be concerned with this issue. |
