The researcher deemed that the eletric tricycles built by NECTEC should be evaluated based on engineering, effectiveness and safety, so the research and development procedures could be completed. Electric engine and LPG engine tricycles were evaluated in terms of safety using both Thai and California, USA, Safety regulations as guidelines. Efficiency of the electric and LPG-fuel tricycles, was also studied using the roads around the Ratanakosin island of Bangkok inner city. The results of examination of headlights indicated that the LPG-fuel tricyclesheadlights were brighter than those of the electric vehicles and exceeded the standards as prescribed by the Department of Land Trasport. The inspection of engine speeds showed that LPG-fuel tricycle engines ran at 4,500 rpm while the electric tricycles engine ran at 3,000 rpm. Both types of vechicles failed to pass the break inspection standards on the requirement that the total braking value must be more than 60% of the body weight. Gas leakage was not foulld in either type of vehicle. The electric tricycles were heavier than the LPG-fuel tricycles. A survey of the opinions of land transportation experts showed that, 33% of them favored the electric tricycles. The research also showed that among the advantages of the electric tricycles are that they have no negative impact on the environment in terms of air and noise quality. Moreover, electric tricycles are safer in accidents because there is no gas leakage which may cause explosion . For better transport efficiency, the body frame should be improved to reduce the weight and help the vehicle comply with braking safety standards. |
